Synthesis teaches students to create something complex from simpler parts. As a reading comprehension tool, it involves recognizing words and putting them together to generate meaningful sentences. Synthesis is the foundation of verbal communication and the key to language growth.

The Train Game

The Train Game helps students to develop synthesis skills by asking them to group words together to form sentences. And, in higher levels, students are asked to put sentences together to deliver meaning.

The game has three levels of increasing difficulty and is appropriate for grades K-5. In Level 1 and Level 2, the words are spoken to the students. This provides an opportunity for students who can't yet visually recognize words but who can aurally comprehend them. The game helps to foster visual recognition of words and inspires students to higher achievement and motivation. Reading is required in Level 3.
