Candidate Central / My Ballot FAQ
Becoming an informed voter is difficult. We want to make it easy and fun. WPSU’s Candidate Central is your source for candidate information this election season.
Candidate Central is designed to provide citizens of central Pennsylvania with comprehensive information about the candidates on their ballots.
Q: Does Candidate Central tell me who to vote for?
A: No. The main purpose of Candidate Central is to introduce you to the candidates who are running and their positions on the issues.
Q: How did you decide which candidates to include?
A: All candidates within WPSU’s approximate television-viewing area were given the opportunity to complete our questionnaire and a video or audio interview. Click here for a coverage map.
Q: Why are some features (i.e. quiz, video, questionnaire replies) available for some candidates, but not others?
A: Each profile reflects the participation of that respective candidate. Quizzes are only available in cases where both candidates in a race filled out the questionnaire.
Q: How was the quiz developed?
A: The quiz is based on the Select a Candidate™ concept and surveys developed by Minnesota Public Radio.
Q: How did you come up with these questions?
A: The questions were developed by WPSU to mirror core issues of concern to central Pennsylvania voters.
Q: How did you assign positions to each candidate?
A: After development of the quiz, each candidate received, and filled out the quiz.
Q: How does the quiz scoring work?
A: Each candidate will be assigned 1 point for each question where your answer matches their answer. If you indicate that an issue is very important to you, the candidate is assigned 3 points. If you indicate that the issue is “not at all” important to you, the candidate is assigned 0 points. In this way, the “match” is weighted to reflect those issues on which you decide elections.
